Port of Antwerp – Oil spill detection

For the Port of Antwerp thermal inspections of oil spills in the Antwerp port area were carried out. During this assignment, SkyeBase was standby in order to be on site within 2 hours in the event of an oil spill incident. The scope of this mission was to quickly estimate the size and location of the oil spill by using a thermal camera in combination with a (zoom) RGB camera. The University of Antwerp analyses these images more profound and processes them to train algorithms for automatic recognition of oil on a water surface.
