As part of a call for innovation from the city of Antwerp, SkyeBase is launching an ambitious project on autonomous drone inspections. With the financial support granted by the city, SkyeBase will be able to develop a system that automates inspections of buildings and infrastructure.

From manual to autonomous
Although drone inspections have been around for some time, they often still require manual control today and can mainly be used in simple circumstances. Buildings with complex structures, limited GPS coverage or dynamic situations such as changing obstacles pose a challenge. SkyeBase responds to this with a solution in which drones:
- adjust their flight path in real time based on environmental data,
- detect defects via cloud-based AI analysis (5G connected),
- Automatically integrate data into existing management systems
“Autonomous inspections are the future,” says Bart Daniels, COO of SkyeBase. “With this project, we are taking an important step towards fully automated and safe inspection processes in complex urban environments. Thanks to the support of the City of Antwerp, we can accelerate technological innovation and apply it in concrete terms.”
Goal: safer, more efficient and more reliable inspections
Thanks to this automation, inspections can be carried out more frequently, faster and with less risk. This provides benefits for both the city and building managers:
- Safer: inspectors need to physically visit roofs or in hazardous areas less often.
- More efficient: less manual intervention and faster post-processing of images.
- More qualitative: accurate data (orthophotos, 3D models, thermography) enable measurable analyses, including damage evolution over time.
