BESIX – Inspection of sewer manholes at the Royers Lock in Antwerp

Our Achievement:

At the Royers Lock in Antwerp, we inspected two sewers to assess the presence of coating.

Thanks to our innovative approach, this inspection was carried out entirely without human entry, as requested by the client.

During the inspection, an indoor drone was deployed to examine a specific area, inaccessible to humans, with precision to identify any potential coating deficiencies.

BESIX monitored the inspection live on a secondary screen, enabling real-time adjustments to be made by guiding the pilot if necessary.

Key benefits of our solution:

  • Safety First: No need for entry into the area, significantly enhancing safety.
  • Detailed Data Collection: The inspection was conducted using a 4K camera, providing high-quality, sharp images.
  • Precise Localization of Issues: With a LiDAR point cloud, problem areas were accurately pinpointed.
  • Cost and Time Savings: No scaffolding construction was required, resulting in considerable savings in both time and cost.

With this innovative approach, we enabled a safe, efficient, and thorough inspection that met the client’s requirements perfectly.
